Program Overview
The Certificate in Nursing (CN) at Meridian Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals is a structured 2 ½-year program that spans five semesters, designed in line with the standards and competencies set by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC). This program equips students with essential nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for safe and effective patient care in diverse healthcare settings across Uganda.

The CN program emphasizes a competency-based approach to ensure students acquire essential nursing skills in line with UNMC requirements. The curriculum is structured to cover foundational topics in nursing science, patient care, health promotion, and preventive health.
Practical Clinical Training
To bridge theory and practice, students engage in hands-on training through supervised clinical placements at accredited healthcare facilities, including Kayunga Referral Hospital, Kawolo Hospital, Kasangati Health Centre IV, and Wakiso Health Centre IV. These placements are aligned with UNMC standards to ensure students gain practical experience in real-world settings.
Practical Clinical Training
Throughout the program, students are trained in key competencies required by UNMC, including:
- Safe and effective administration of medication.
- Accurate patient assessment and vital signs monitoring.
- Basic wound care and management.
- Infection prevention and control.
- Communication and ethical practices in patient care.

The CN program instills values of integrity, respect, and compassion, ensuring that graduates are prepared to uphold UNMC’s ethical standards in patient care. Students are taught to work within the legal and ethical frameworks required by the council.
